Dear parents and carers,
I am writing to you today about our Academy uniform. I don’t believe that our uniform is smart enough to reflect the high aspirations we have for students here at NEWA. We’ve been making great progress and I’m incredibly proud of our students and grateful for the support that you’ve given me. I want this school to be the best in the area and I know, from experience, we have to have high standards in every aspect of our academic life.
I’d like to propose a new tie for all students, they will be given this tie FREE of charge, there will be no cost to parents. You will see from the design that it is much smarter than what we have at the moment and we have moved away from a clip-on tie that students and parents continually tell me that they don’t like. Ensuring students can tie a proper tie is also an important skill to learn when they leave us and have job interviews or enter the world of work where they need to wear something formal.
Over the next 18 months, I’ll also be looking at other aspects of our uniform including shoes which I know has been an issue in the past. I want our students to be ready for the next stage of their lives and know that there is a time and a place for casual footwear and casual clothes. As you know, our expectations are high and I’d hope that you’ve seen some of the changes that I’ve implemented and that you have started to trust me.
I’m interested in hearing your views on our uniform. Tell me what you think – email me directly by writing to [email protected] or we can arrange a call, you can do this by calling Nat, my PA on 01902 623 111. I won’t make any firm changes until September 2021 so we all have plenty of time to discuss this but if we do make changes I’d like to announce them by January 2021.
I recognise that in some cases there might be financial reasons that impact on buying uniform. If this is the case, I would ask that you contact me directly and we can talk about some financial support. Likewise, with regards to any medical conditions, we can come to a compromise.
At the heart of all of my decisions is what is best for your child and their future. Every decision counts. These marginal gains add up and bring about bigger changes. Changes that mean brighter futures for all.
I look forward to talking to you but, an even greater privilege, will be individually handing each student their new tie when we all return from lockdown.
