Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to introduce myself as the Chair of Governors at Ormiston NEW Academy. My name is Hayley Guest and I will commence my role as Chair of the governing body from September 2020. I am currently the Headteacher of East Park Academy in Wolverhampton and prior to this I served as the Headteacher of Timbertree Academy in Sandwell.

We are delighted to announce that as of September the Academy will see a new governing body in place. Given the progress that the Academy has made and in the light of the transformation this year under Mr Cooling’s leadership, a decision has been made to amend the constitution of the governing body from an Interim Executive Board to a Local Governing Body (LGB).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the other governors for their commitment and hard work over the past two years. Although, Paul Brockwell, has decided to step away from the role as Chair of Governors, due to his increasing commitments, however we are delighted that Paul will remain on the LGB as Vice Chair. Rebecca Fisher, Ormiston Academies Trust Regional Finance Director (West), will also remain as a member of the governing body.

I am pleased to announce that Paul, Rebeca and I will be joined on the governing body by:

• Four local governors – Alan Rogers, Schmize Vassell, Paula Bishop and Marie Marenda.

• Two staff governors – Mrs Johnson, Head of MFL, and Mrs Sangwin, who works part of the admin team in Reprographics. Both bring a wealth of knowledge and experience of working at the academy and will ensure staff views are considered.

• The Governing Body also welcomes Ash Kharait to the board as a parent governor and I’m sure he will add to the board’s role of challenging and being a ‘critical friend’ of the academy.

The purpose of governorship is working in partnership with you as parents and carers and staff to ensure that every child can succeed and reach their full potential. This is our commitment to the school community. To achieve this, and to carry out our role as governors effectively, we need to know what issues are important to you (so we remain responsive) and ensure that you know what issues governors are discussing (so that we remain accountable). As governors we will work closely with Mr Cooling and staff to ensure that we continue to deliver a high standard of education to our students at NEW. We are united by our commitment to the academy and the responsibility we share for the academy’s long-term success.
All relevant governance information is included on the academy’s website. Please remember that the website is a good way of keeping up to date with all aspects of school life. If you have a concern or a point of view to share, please let us know. We can be contacted via the academy’s main office email – [email protected]

I look forward to working with all the staff, students, parents and carers in the coming months and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support.

Finally on behalf of the governors, I’d like to wish you all a safe and happy summer.
Yours faithfully,

Hayley Guest
