Students will be required to learn the core principles of design and technology and apply their understanding to solve real and relevant problems.  They will carry out the following:

  • Learning from existing products and practice
  • Implications of wider issues
  • Design thinking and communication
  • Material considerations
  • Technical understanding
  • Manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Viability of design solutions

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • The ability to research independently, analyse and evaluate information
  • Good practical skills

how is the course assessed

The course is assessed with a two hour exam and controlled assessment each worth 50%

what might you study after this

Students successfully completing the course may continue on to A level design and technology. They may also go on to study a degree in design.
