Excellence through Endeavour

The 16 to 19 Tuition Fund 2021 to 2022 Academic Year

16 TO 19 TUITION FUND 2021 TO 2022

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic the Department for Education (DfE) in conjunction with the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) have provided additional funding designed to support students in KS5 with English, maths and other subjects where learning was disrupted.  This 16-19 Tuition Fund is available to all 16 to 19 providers such as Ormiston NEW Academy.  This funding is ring fenced to provide additional tuition targeted towards:

  • Students who have not achieved a grade 4 or 5 in English and/or mathematics.
  • Students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), particularly where they have experienced additional disruption to learning because of their specific needs and disabilities.
  • Students who have achieved a grade 4 or above in English and mathematics but are from an economically disadvantaged background and would benefit from catch-up support.

The subjects covered in the tuition will primarily focus on, but not be limited to, English and mathematics and will be identified according to need and existing programmes.

Available funding: £16,254 for 2021-2022 academic year.

Type of provision:

Some small group tuition will be provided by existing school staff. This will primarily be focused on GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics, but there will be instances of provision in other subject areas according to capacity and need. Eligible students will be provided with a block of 15 hours of tuition. We will use the funding to pay our existing staff to deliver the tuition, in addition to fulfilling their contracted hours. In some instances where our own staff cannot provide this capacity, external tutors will be used to deliver the 15 hours of tuition.

Size of groups: Tuition groups will be up to 5 students except where exceptional circumstances prevail and a group may be extended up to, but not above, 7 students.

How eligible students have been selected:

We have used the following criteria to select students:

  • Year 13 students will take priority over Year 12 students
  • prior attainment data in GCSE English and Mathematics
  • students who have passed GCSE English and Mathematics but are in receipt of the 16-19 bursary.
  • Students who have passed GCSE English and Mathematics, have not applied for the 16-19 bursary but were in receipt of Free School Meals during Year 11.

Should an individual student or parent wish to make a case for additional support, they should contact the Head of Sixth Form at the Academy via email at [email protected].

Ormiston NEW Academy are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities in respect of the 16 to 19 tuition fund by:
