Course content

Students will study four units:

  • Unit 1 – The USA 1890-1945
  • Unit 2 – Life in Hitler’s Germany
  • Unit 3 – Britain: The People and the State 1919 – 1964
  • Unit 4 – Russia 1854 – 1964

Entry requirements

GCSE grade B minimum in History and/or grade B English.

You can take History AS without having done History GCSE but you must have achieved a grade B or higher in English.

Progression routes

This qualification may form part of the entry requirements for progression to higher education or employment. Students may progress to the full A level in this subject from this qualification.

History can lead to a number of career options including those where historical knowledge has direct application including: Journalism, Media, Museums, Teaching Law, Politics, Social Work and Nursing & Medicine.

Government and Politics

Examining body: AQA

Course content

Students will study four units:

  • People, Politics and Participation
  • Governing Modern Britain
  • Politics and Government of the USA
  • Political Ideologies

Entry requirements

Grade B in English or History.

Progression routes

Government and Politics is an extremely relevant and well considered A-level by university institutions. Studying Government and Politics can lead to a career in: Politics, Journalism, Teaching, Public Relations, Media and Human Resources. Government and Politics is becoming increasingly desirable amongst many leading professions as the qualification enables students to view global issues and understand key world issues.
