Course content

Students will study two main units of work over the language course chosen:

  • Listening, reading and writing
  • Speaking

Entry requirements

Candidates would be expected to have achieved GCSE or equivalent to at least a B grade in French or Spanish depending on which qualification studied.

Progression routes

Most universities will offer the opportunity to study a combined degree such as Business and Languages with the opportunity of studying abroad. Also, most Universities would prefer candidates who have studied a language at A Level. A qualification in a Language will open the doors into various industries such as Travel and Tourism, Customer Relations, Law, International Relations, International Business and some Governmental Agencies.

Students will study a range of very interesting topics over the course of two years and be examined in the skills of:

  • Listening, reading and writing (one exam at AS and one at A)
  • Speaking (one exam at AS and one at A2)

Entry requirements

Candidates would be expected to have achieved GCSE grade B or higher in German.

Progression routes

A Level German is a highly respected qualification, both in the academic world and the world of work and business. Indeed, recent research suggests that a qualification in German combined with business is the most in demand combination of subjects after medicine. A Level German can lead to progression to study German at University or German combined with other subjects to degree level.  The lists of professions for which this qualification is valued is endless but includes: teaching (primary and secondary), international law and business, the car industry, travel and tourism, medicine, science (many of the world’s leading scientific publications are produced in German), technology, journalism, government agency work, translating and interpreting, international property management.

A Level French is perfect for a career in Journalism, Management, Finance, Teaching, Politics and other industries.  A Level French builds on GCSE understanding and enhances the ability to become fluent in a second world language.
