Ormiston NEW Academy

Excellence through Endeavour

End of Year Update

Posted on: 23rd July 2021

As we start our summer holiday I am writing to inform you of a few changes to our re-opening in September now that we have full guidance from the government around lateral flow testing. I also wanted to write to you with information about our new pastoral structure and our expectations regarding attendance and uniform from September.

We are looking forward to welcoming your child back to school in the new academic year. The schedule for their return is:

Please download the lateral flow testing consent form for those parents that did not consent in January. This should be returned with your child in September when they come for their first lateral flow test. Please be aware that we will not be able to test any child attending without this consent form. Consent can be withdrawn at any time, so please notify the Academy if this is the case.

Attendance

As always, your child’s attendance is of paramount importance – any time out of school results in lost learning time. We request that you make any appointments on Friday afternoons, avoid booking holidays in term time and work with us to strive for 100% attendance. All students should be on site no later than 8:35am, ready for an 8:40am start. The staggered end to the school day will now cease, in line with government guidelines, so all students will now finish their school day at the following times:

Monday – 4:05pm
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – 3:05pm
Friday – 1:15pm

Uniform

We are really proud of our students at NEW and how they take pride in their uniform. Please can we take this opportunity to remind you that all students will be required to wear polishable shoes rather than trainers and should wear their new blazers and tie from their first day.

Pastoral Structure

From September the NEWA pastoral team will be:

Pastoral structure

These staff will be your key contacts next academic year and will support your child to thrive in their learning.

Despite the disruption to learning we have yet again experienced this academic year I remain immensely proud of the progress we have made and how well our students have responded in such challenging and unprecedented times. I hope they, you, and your families have a safe and restful summer.

Mrs L. Clarke
Vice Principal
