Letter | Trip to Barmouth

Posted on: 20th July 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am pleased to announce that there is an exciting opportunity for Year 7/8/9/10 students to visit Fairbourne
and Barmouth in North Wales. In response to the governments initiative to support students following the
restrictions of lockdown, the Academy has decided to fully fund the visit, with physical and mental wellbeing the trips main focus. The dates for each year group visit are as follows:

• Monday 26th July – Year 7
• Tuesday 27th July – Year 8
• Wednesday 28th July – Year 9
• Thursday 29th July – Year 10

The plan for the day is to leave Ormiston NEW Academy at 7.30am and travel to Fairbourne. Once here, we
will journey on Fairbourne railway before taking a short ferry ride across Barmouth estuary. Students will
then have time to enjoy the town, either visiting the shops or the fairground. We will then gather for a
portion of chips on the beach and a game of football or rounders. We will then look to depart Barmouth at
4.45pm for a 7.00pm return to the academy. I have included a detailed itinerary of the structure of the day
below.

Please be aware for the trip, SWIMMING OR PADDLING IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN due to health and safety
concerns. I am asking for your support in reiterating this point with your child, should they be fortunate
enough to be selected for the trip. I would also like to inform you that there will be periods of remote supervision (E.g. when students walk around the town/ shops in groups of 4 or more or when students go
on the fairground) We will ensure that students are fully briefed with the designated areas they can access,
along with a central meeting point, which will be manned at all times. Students will also have the trip leader’s
school mobile number, which is listed below if they need to make contact with the trip leader on the day
of the trip.

As mentioned earlier, there is no charge for this trip, and due to the large expected response, spaces will be
allocated based on behaviour, attendance and punctuality over the past academic year. In addition to the
content of this letter, I have attached a Medical and Dietary consent form that will need to be completed in
full and returned to the school reception no later than Wednesday 7th July at 9am. We will notify parents/
carers by Friday 16th July if your child can attend the trip.

If you have any concerns about this or further queries that I have not covered, please contact me at school
and I will endeavour to answer your questions.

Yours sincerely
Mr Petrie
