Visit to The Houses of Parliament

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am pleased to announce that there is an exciting opportunity for Year 8 students to visit The Houses of Parliament, London. The day will include:

  • A tour of Parliament where students will be able to partake in a workshop on democracy
  • Entry to the London Eye
  • A walking tour of London landmarks in close proximity to Parliament
  • Entry to the British Museum

The fieldtrip will take place on Thursday 14th December 2023.  In order to reduce our travel time and maximise what children can see, we have chosen to use the train and have made a provisional booking with Avanti West Coast. Our times are below:

Students will need to meet myself at Wolverhampton Train Station at 7.00am in order for them to be registered prior to departure. If there is any delay on our return, we will send a text message to make you aware. Students will need to be collected by their parent/carer at 19.30/7.30pm in person, as we are not returning to school we will not be able to allow students to make their own way home.

I have included a list of the items that students will need to bring with them on the day.

• Suitable footwear for the activities listed above

• Normal school uniform

• Packed lunch or money for food, students who are on Free School Meals will have a packed lunch provided

• Drinks to stay hydrated throughout the day

• Money to buy souvenirs. (optional)

The cost incurred for students is that of travelling by train, entrance to the sites above and the workshop. Students are asked to pay a non-refundable fee of £28.00 to cover the journey there and back.  There are a limited number of places available and they will be offered on a first come first serve basis. Students who do not gain a place will be added to a waiting list.  In addition to the content of this letter, I have attached a Medical and Dietary consent form that will need to be completed in full and returned to the Academy Finance. Students are reminded that their behaviour prior to the visit must be exemplary in order to attend.

If you have any concerns about this or further queries that I have not covered, please contact me at school and I will endeavour to answer your questions.

Yours sincerely

Mr M Connolly
