New Ormiston Teacher Training referral scheme will see individuals win big prizes

Ormiston Academies Trust has announced a new referral scheme as part of its recently launched teacher training programme, which gives individuals across the UK the chance to win prizes, including generous travel vouchers, by inspiring budding teachers to start their training.

The raffle is part of the new Ormiston Teacher Training (OTT), which has opened brand-new specialised training campuses in Staffordshire, West Midlands, Norfolk and Suffolk. In partnership with the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT), the programme will deliver innovative and high-quality training and development to aspiring teachers across the country from September 2024.

Applications for the training programme are open now and aspiring teachers are being encouraged to secure their place at the earliest opportunity. With the raffle drumming up excitement about the new programme, from 8 April individuals can refer anyone they know with a passion for their subject or who is looking for a career that really makes a difference, to apply to train with Ormiston Teacher Training. Qualifying submissions will be in with a chance to win incredible prizes including £500 in travel vouchers to spend on a UK weekend break, £300 in retail vouchers or £200 to spend at a luxury farm shop.

As an Associate College of NIoT, Ormiston Teacher Training offers an initial teacher training (ITT) programme rooted in national research and expertise, with pragmatic and practical support for new teachers. The programme will provide core learning to help induct trainees into a role where they will be teaching students in many different contexts and across varying communities.

The new trainees could specialise in biology, chemistry, English, modern languages, physics, mathematics and computing, amongst others, with the option to study full or part-time in campuses based in Ormiston academies across the country including Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy, Ormiston NEW Academy, Ormiston Venture Academy, and Ormiston Endeavour Academy.

The course will help up-and-coming educators to reach Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), receive a PGCE awarded by the University of Birmingham and the possibility of future employment at Ormiston once training is completed. They will be given 39 weeks of fully immersive professional learning and teaching practice, benefitting from hands-on experience in schools and weekly central training alongside tailored work with personal mentors to develop their skills and confidence in the classroom.

Those interested in entering the raffle are encouraged to refer their trainee online at www.ormistonteachertraining.co.uk, get in touch at [email protected]. Interested candidates can apply online for a place at Ormiston Teacher Training via the Department for Education application site, https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-teacher-training and by searching “NIoT@OrmistonTeacherTraining”.

Kaye Patrick, Director of Initial Teacher Training, Ormiston Academies Trust: “We are extremely excited to have launched our new programme and training campuses, which will enable us to deliver this new national scheme in partnership with the National Institute of Teaching. As a trust, we have long been committed to developing and nurturing teaching talent, and ensuring that they have immediate access to local experts and training opportunities.

“This raffle is a really exciting opportunity for people to explore their love of teaching or nominate someone they think would make a great teacher and we are really looking forward to welcoming future trainees to the programme. The positive impact that this will have for students and colleagues across our trust and other schools is so significant and we would encourage those interested in applying to do so at the earliest opportunity.”
