Ormiston NEW Academy /Ormiston Shelfield Academy
Ormiston Forge Academy /Ormiston – George Salter
This was the first Ormiston U19 Football Tournament that was hosted by ourselves here at Ormiston NEW Academy. The invite for the tournament was to our local Ormiston Academies to celebrate the football programmes being successfully run and developed at each Academy. Our local cluster of West region Academies who run a football programme are; Ormiston Forge Academy in Cradley Heath, Ormiston Shelfield Academy in Walsall and Ormiston George Salter in West Bromwich.
On a lovely Autumn afternoon each team played each other in straight 25 minute games and played each other once (see table). There were some great games and some fantastic goals. The eventual winners were the hosts NEW Academy with two wins and draw, in second place it was Forge Academy with two wins and a loss with Shelfield finishing third and George Salter in fourth.
The tournament was also for players to impress and be selected for an Ormiston Football Academy team (a selection of players from the four Academies) which will represent Ormiston Trust in games against Professional and Semi Professional Football Clubs. If selected this will give the players the chance to impress against these clubs with hopefully enough to be given a trial or sign for one of these clubs in the future. At the heart of the programme is Educational pathways and the players were also given advice on how to be part of the Football Industry even if they do not continue playing and the pathways into coaching and University.
It was the first OAT west U19s Football Tournament with 4 teams. Each team played each other once in a mini-league basis. The 4 teams were NEW (Wolverhampton) , FORGE (Cradley Heath), GEORGE SALTER (West Bromwich) and SHELFIELD (Walsall).
NEW were the overall winners with 2 wins and draw and scoring 9 goals. Forge came second with 2 wins and a loss to NEW in the first game, this turned out to be the key game. NEW won 2-0. The top goal scorers were; Ben Hartland – Forge and Josh Assi-Kacou for NEW with 5 goals.
With the 4 Ormiston Academies providing a Football Programme in the 6th Form’s and being in close proximity to each other it was natural to bring OAT West together and organise a U19 tournament. Here at NEW we have fantastic facilities to host these type of tournaments. We had over 60 players who participated in an afternoon celebration of Football.
