Each year the Wolverhampton Photography Society, in Collaboration with the Rotary Club of Tettenhall, host their annual Wolverhampton Young Photographers Competition. All schools and young people across Wolverhampton were invited to enter.
The competition finale, held on Monday 22nd January, saw Ormiston NEW Academy students excel in the four categories that they entered. Every photography group from years 9 to 13 had a representative at the final. Seven students successfully secured a place in the finals, with sixteen entries between them. This year there was also an added category for students aged 15 and ten of the sixteen finalists were Ormiston NEW Academy students! The students in the under 15 category competed against 50 other entries to secure their place in the final.
Each finalist had their work professionally printed and displayed as part of an exhibition at The Viner Gallery. All finalists are able to keep their images, have been invited to join Wolverhampton Photographic Society free for a year and have been invited to a photography workshop.
Of the students in the final we saw our students successfully secure the following awards:
3rd Place – Lauren Wilson: Stairway to Equality
2nd Place – Lauren Wilson: Silhouette
1st Place – Faiza Saeed
Staff and students at Ormiston NEW Academy are immensely proud of our students for their hard work and creative flare that secured them a place in the final and a big congratulations to the four students for being the winners and runner ups of their categories. Well done ONA students!
